Ashley J Chan is a Chinese-American artist and designer based in Chicago, IL. As a book artist and printmaker, she uses the primary form of a book to explore identity and narrative. Her work delves into themes of the Asian-American experience, womanhood, and the shifting attachments to those identities based on the environments she exists in. Through traditional structures and sculptural imagery, her books serve as a microcosm to assess her own story: vehicles to chronicle her conflicting balance between cultural heritage and contemporary realities.

Chan graduated with a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University where she studied printmaking and communication design. Most notable works are a part of Hunt Library’s Special Collection and RMSC’s Library & Archives.
